HOW MANY SEASONS DOES THE SANTA MONICA ADULT SOCCER LEAGUE (SMASL) HAVE IN A YEAR?
Currently the SMASL has 3 seasons, a Spring Season (February thru May), a Summer Season (May thru August), a Fall Season (September thru December).

WHEN ARE THE REGISTRATION PERIODS FOR EACH SEASON
Each registration period is normally about 5 to 6 weeks before the season starts.
Spring Season registration is normally around December 1-15.
Summer Season registration is normally around March 15-30.
Fall Season registration is normally around August 1-15.

HOW DO I REGISTER A TEAM?
You will download the appropriate team registration form, complete it and turn it into the Sports Activity Office Located at 1401 Olympic Blvd, Santa Monica (corner of 14th and Olympic at the Memorial Park)

WHERE DO I OBTAIN THE TEAM REGISTRATION FORM?
The team registration form is typically uploaded to the website about 1-3 days prior to the registration period starting. You can download the form from the website or you can also obtain the form at the Sports Activity office at 1401 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER A TEAM INTO THE LEAGUE?
The Team Registration Fee is determined by the team’s Priority Status and will be listed on the team registration form.
In addition to the team registration, there are individual referee fees to be paid in cash, to the referee, at the start of each match. The referee fee for a 7v7 match is $30 per team/ per game. The referee fee for a 11v11 match is $110 per team/per game.

HOW IS A TEAM PRIORITY STATUS DETERMINED?
Teams that can document at the time of team registration, 60% of their players that live in the city of Santa Monica can obtain priority 1 status.
Teams that can document at the time of team registration, 60% of their players that work in the city of Santa Monica can obtain priority 2 status.
Any team unable to certify as priority 1 or 2, will be a priority 3 team

WHAT IS A FORFEIT BOND AND WHY IS IT REQUIRED?
A forfeit bond is a check, made out to SMASL MANAGEMENT, that is required as a back up in the even a team forfeits a match and does not pay the referee for the entire match. This should be made out to SMASL MANAGEMENT by a personal check from the team manager.

IF MY TEAM DOES NOT UTILIZE THE FORFEIT BOND, WILL IT BE RETURNED?
If the forfeit bond is not utilized, then the forfeit bond can be requested, about 1 week after the season has completed. If the team manager does not request the forfeit bond check within 30 days of the end of the season, then the forfeit bonds will be destroyed.

HOW MUCH IS THE FORFEIT BOND?
The amount of the forfeit bond for the 7v7 team is $120. (made out to SMASL MANAGEMENT)
The amount of the forfeit bond for the 11 v 11 team is $440. (made out to SMASL MANAGEMENT)

IS THERE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF FORFEITS A TEAM CAN FORFEIT GAMES IN A SEASON?
Yes, if a team forfeits 2 games in a season, then at the discretion of the league directors, the team can be eliminated from future participation in the current season and no refund will be given for the remaining portion of the team registration fee. Additionally, the team manager will forfeit their ability to register teams in future seasons of the SMASL.

IF A TEAM MANAGERS NOTIFIES THE LEAGUE THAT THEY CAN’T PLAY ON A CERTAIN DAY, CAN THE TEAM AVOID A FORFEIT FEE?
Yes, if the team manager, notifies the league directors 14 days in advance of the date of the game, then team can avoid a forfeit fee. If the notification is less than 14 days before the start of the match, then a forfeit fee will be assessed.

HOW DO PLAYERS OBTAIN THEIR SANTA MONICA PLAYER ID CARDS?
Once a team has been confirmed into a league, the team roster that was submitted at time of registration will be used when players come into the Sports Activity Office at 1401 Olympic Blvd, during normal administration hours. The player should let the City Staff know which team they play for, then the City Staff will review the roster to find their name and if the name is on the list, then the player can show an ID, such as California Drivers License and then complete the player release & liability form, and a photo will be taken and an ID card issued. The process should take about 2-4 minutes.

IS A TEAM UNIFORM REQUIRED?
Yes, at minimum, the team must obtain their own same colored jerseys. Full uniforms (jerseys, shorts, socks) are encouraged and recommended, but not required.

WHAT HAPPENS IF TWO TEAMS HAVE THE SAME COLOR JERSEYS?
If there is a color conflict of jerseys and neither team has an additional color, then the league directors can normally provide a set of “bibs” to use during the game, to avoid the color conflict.

ARE SHINGRUARDS REQUIRED FOR EACH PLAYER TO PLAY?
Yes. Shinguards are required and all players should wear shinguards when playing..

WHEN ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?
If you are selected to play on a weeknight, then the kickoff times will vary, between 7:15 pm, 8:15 pm, and 9:15 pm.
If you are selected to play on a Saturday during the day, the kickoff times will vary, depending how many leagues will be created on Saturday’s. Kickoff times will typically start at around 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm up to 3:00 pm, if we have enough leagues to fill the entire day.
If you are selected to play on the 11v11 games on Sunday’s the kickoff times will typically be at 10:00 am, 11:45 am, 1:30 pm and 3:15 pm.
If you on a 7 v7 team to play on Sunday afternoons, then typically those kickoffs will start right after the 11 v 11 games are finished, typically as early as 3:15 pm, 4:15 pm, 5:15 pm, depending on how many games are in the Sunday 11 v 11 day and how many 7v7 leagues will follow on Sunday afternoon/early evening.

WHAT LEAGUES ARE OFFERED ON WHICH DAYS/NIGHTS:
SPRING AND SUMMER SEASONS OFFER THE FOLLOWING:
Monday evenings: COED 7v 7, Women 7v7
Tuesday evenings: Men 7v7
Wednesday evenings: COED 7v7
Thursday evenings: Men 7v7
Friday evenings: Men 7v7, Coed 7v7
Saturday days: Men 7v7, Coed 7v7, Women 7v7
Sunday days: Men 11v 11
Sunday Afternoons: Men 7v7, Coed 7v7, Women 7v7

FALL SEASON IS LIMITED IN ITS OFFERINGS:
Tuesday evenings: Men’s 7v7
Wednesday evenings: Coed 7v7
Thursday evenings: Men’s 7v7
Friday evenings: Men 7v7 and/or Coed 7v7
Sunday evenings: Men 7v7 and/or Coed 7v7 and/or Women 7v7

HOW MANY PLAYERS CAN BE REGISTERED PER TEAM?
7V7 teams can register a roster of up to 14 players.
11v11 teams can register a roster of up to 24 players.

CAN A TEAM REGISTER NEW PLAYERS?
Yes, team managers can update their team roster weekly if needed. Simply provide a new and updated team roster when needed, with the list of team members to the City Staff at the Sports Activity Office. Please date the newest and latest team roster each time you present a new one. If the team is at the roster limit and want to add a new player, the team will need to drop one of the players from the list before adding a new one.
